I know from experience how tough it is to stay in the game. Baseball is our pastime, it’s our life for some. It is the greatest game around. I am a former player and for the past couple of years all I read and hear about is the steroid issue. It got me thinking, “What about the kids that love baseball? What is going on in their minds?” (Is it okay to use drugs to help me perform? My hero is doing that.) The competition and stress are unbelievable. I also know it is only a small amount of players that are making the headlines for all to see. It is time to think of the kids. Kids have enough of drug pressure as it is. It’s all over the news every day. But as players we can make a difference. It’s time to put the outcomes of the games in the news instead of “who’s taking what” and “who’s lying about taking this”. I know that if I found out my hero Roberto Clemente was using steroids I would have been crushed. Let’s just play baseball with what God gave us and let the kids pick their heros instead of zeros.
