No offense is meant to anyone…but…hello…? The (American) Baseball Season now opens in Japan? Call me old fashioned, or old-school, or just plain OLD…but there’s something wrong with this picture, folks.
Cut spring training short, get on a twenty-one hour flight, then play ball at 6:00am EST? Maybe you must be on performance enhancing drugs these days? I NEEDED my spring training, all six weeks, even after winter-ball.
Baseball players must be in shape, but give us a little break folks. Taking it easy playing 70-90 games in Venezuela or Mexico is our winter vacation. A mental health break, if not a physical one. A complete spring training is what gets our minds and bodies back in shape for regular season play.
No more, evidently. I’m not sure what MLB is up to here. Early season injuries are what they’re asking for. Cut training short, fly across the world, play two games like they matter (’cuz now they do), then go home to a couple of exhibition games? Right! Or better yet, wrong. Bad choice…

I pretty much feel the same way you do about this, and I think I can see where it comes from.
All of the major US sports are gaining fans, NFL, NBA, and even NASCAR, baseball though is losing fans.
What have the NBA and the NFL and NASCAR all done? They have started to have exhibition and even regular season contests outside of the US.
Maybe the MLB is grasping at straws to show that it is still viable as a major sport in America and doesn’t want to end up as a small market sport like the NHL.
Just an idea.
